The Pondstrosity

Much of this Memorial Day weekend was spent outside, in an effort to whip our yard into submission.  Suffice to say that the yard had been fairly neglected before we bought it, so we have our work cut out for us.

I must preface this post by telling you that I have things growing in my yard that I have been reluctant to pull because I'm not sure if they're weeds or real plants.  My thumb is just green like that.

One of the features I have a love/hate relationship with is the landscape pond in the backyard.  It has a waterfall feature, which is really soothing and restful, especially since it sits right outside our bedroom window.

What's particularly sad, is that at one point, it looked like this:
And even this:
(((Sigh)))  As I tell my husband, "Look honey, you can even see the bottom of the pond.  The water is clear."

I suppose we could just listen to the water feature and not look at it, right?  Honestly, some days it's easier to just stick your head in the mucky pond water sand.

Here it is in the early spring, when we were ecstatic just to get the waterfall working - even if it was a pondstrosity in every other respect.

Actually, compared to how it looks now, with weeds everything growing and blooming out of control, these pictures aren't half bad.

Here it is now - and these pictures were taken AFTER we pulled a bunch of gnarly weeds in and around the pond.

At least the water lillies are pretty...

So, there you have it.  My dirty little secret that lurks in my backyard.  Taunting me (along with the frogs - who knew those suckers could be so loud?).  But, since I know the potential in this pond, I will keep on, keepin' on.

I think this is the first time I wish my "after" looked like the "before".

Any pond experts out there?  Suggestions?  Or do I just fill it with cement and call it a day?
