A colorful U.S. dollar? The Chicago Tribune (reg. req'd) reports that U.S. currency will be getting colors other than green starting next year.
Green and black ink is now used on neutral-colored paper. With the makeover, color tints will be added in the neutral areas of the note. [Thomas] Ferguson[, director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing,] would not say which colors will be used, but said they will vary by denomination.

Money makers want the new notes to have an American look and feel, and not be confused with, for instance, the colorful euro, the paper currency of the European Union.
Odd.

Here's the more interesting thing. There will certainly be people who are all up in arms about this. Who cares? Really. Money is money and I'm all for greater prevention of counterfeit if that's what this will accomplish. Does the fact that our money looks less noble mean that it's actually worth less? Show me a study that proves the Dollar loses value because it looks like monopoly money and I'll start listening to the whining.
